(December 2023) Excited to announce that Dr. Alex Tye and I received a collaborative AGeS-DiG grant to increase participation of eligible and 1st-Gen. students in geochronology research! Cohort building begins in March 2024!
(September 2023) Thermo2023 was in Riva del Garda Italy! Huge turn-out for our workshop on thermal history modeling in QTQt (co-leads M. Wildman and K. Gallagher), and I was part of an informative panel discussion following up on the white paper published after Thermo2021.
(August 2023) Honored to host the Mentorship Component of the Gordon Research Seminar on Geochronology as the discussion leader for the session: Professional Development for Early-Career Geoscientists. The GRS was followed by a wonderful GRC on Geochronology!
(July-August 2023) Productive and exciting field season in the Argentina eastern Precordillera! New Masters' student Vincent Ruiz, joined myself and collaborator Dr. Darryl Granger from Purdue. We are exploring tectonically driven erosion and sedimentation with cosmogenic nuclides and magnetostratigraphy
(July 2023) As always the Earth Educators Rendezvous was amazing! Wonderful people and workshops. Check out two poster presentations we gave. on research related to developing universal skills in field classes and using student context factors to design new courses (Abbey et al., 2023; Ancayan & Abbey, 2023)
(June 2023) Fun field season in central Colorado with Dr. Alex Tye from Utah Tech, and CSULB undergraduate student Myia MaGee. We measured stratigraphic sections, made clast counts, took imbricationmeasurements, and collected samples for thermochronology and detrital zircon U-Pb geochronology analyses.
(October 2022) GSA Annual Meeting was a blast. Three under CSULB undergraduates doing research with me presented posters! (Schulman. et al., 2022; Westby et al., 2022; Senesac et al., 2022)
(March 2022) Invited talk at the South Coast Geological Society Meeting
(February 2022) Published first children's graphic novel about how mountains are made! Check out more details in the Scicomm tab.
(January 2022) Invited talk on Geochronology for the Earth Science Club of Northern Illinois (ESCONI)
(October 2021) Excited to announce the launch of a kickstarter campaign to raise funds to print a children's graphic novel about how mountains made! Check out the campaign (open through early Dec.) and consider backing it.
(October 2021) Proud of UCB undergraduate Yueyi Che who worked with me to develop her own research project to understand past glacier dynamics in Yosemite! She is presenting this work at both GSA (oral) and AGU this year
(Jan 2021) Co-convened the Rift Basins session at the Tectonics Studies Group 50th Anniversary Annual meeting
Co-convening two sessions at AGU 2020! Combining Multiproxy Data to Resolve Relationships between Tectonics, Climate, and Surficial Processes (with N. Brown, E. Niespolo, L. Corbett) & Techniques and applications of thermal history modeling of low-temperature chronometers (with K. Murray, A. Stevens-Goddard, M. Wildman)
(July 2020) Had a wonderful time and met more amazing people at the Earth Educators Rendezvous Virtual meeting this summer
(Feb 2020) Formed some great new teaching ideas and activities after participating in Diane Ebert-May's fun and useful workshop: Pathways to Scientific Teaching.
(Jan 2020) Happy to join the Tectonic Studies Group (TSG) as an Early Career and International Rep. Check out our opportunities including scientific meetings, field trips, awards, funding etc.
(Jan. 2020) Check out this new article I wrote on behalf of The Biota Project's blog partnership with Science Connected Magazine: Earth's Changing Surface: It Takes Time!.
(Nov 2019) Spent a productive 2 weeks in France at the Université de Rennes with Kerry Gallagher & Chelsea Willett! Be sure to see what we've been working on at Thermo2020
